Mr. Shaikh Shafiq Jhok Wala the Chairman PRGMEA welcomed the ORIC Delegation and formally started the meeting and enquired about the mandate of ORIC.

Mr. Nayyar Ahmed Siddiqui the Research Associate ORIC SZABIST gave a brief about the working of ORIC. He said ORIC is currently engaged in linkages and commercialization activities, we have contacted 22 different Chambers, 13 Women Chambers, 7 Small Trade and Small Industries Chambers and 40 different trade organizations.

ORIC SZABIST received positive feedback and this meeting is also a part of this initiative and we hope that our joint working relationship will establish on solid foundation.

Nayyar further elaborate that Industry has very little experience of working with academia to carry out join technology / product development projects. Moreover, trust deficit also exists between academia and industry given the different motivations of the two key stakeholders. The trust gap widens when industry and academia does not interact with each other. Regular interaction and exchange of ideas between faculty and industry minimize the trust gap.

In this context, need arises on academia’s part for continuous interaction and drive to bring industry on board. ORIC has an important role on directing its faculty towards technology development in collaboration with industry and at the same time engage them in activities such as identification, basic analysis, lab level research, funding, and prototyping.

Mr. Shafiq praised the role of ORIC SZABIST and introduced the working of Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufactures and Exporters Association (PRGMEA). It is the premier trade organization representing the Readymade Garment Industry in Pakistan. The primary objective of PRGMEA is to safeguard interests of readymade garment exporters and create a sustainable manufacturing environment.

PRGMEA has a strong membership of more than 500 companies who are exporters of value added garment and textile sector. PRGMEA’s offices are located in Karachi, Lahore and Sialkot.
